This stunning Red White and Blue Marble Cake is easier to make than it looks! Perfect for 4th of July or any patriotic celebration, this cake is sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Beat until just combined.
  5. Divide batter into three bowls. Tint one bowl red, one bowl blue, and leave one bowl plain. Spoon dollops of each color into the prepared cake pan, alternating colors. Swirl colors together with a knife or skewer. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely. Frost as desired.

Notes

For best results, use gel food coloring for vibrant colors. Do not overmix the batter when swirling the colors, as this can muddy the effect.
