Ooey Gooey Butter Cake Recipe

This recipe will teach you all about making a perfect gooey butter cake every time!

  • 1 box (18.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box (16 ounces) powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, 1 egg, and melted butter. Mix well and press into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  3. In another bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add 2 eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until combined. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
  4. Pour cream cheese mixture over the cake mix layer.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set but still slightly gooey.
  6. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
  7. Dust with additional powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For an extra touch, try adding a pinch of salt to the cream cheese mixture to balance the sweetness.
