garlic cottage cheese naan

Garlic cottage cheese naan is a soft, flavorful Indian flatbread stuffed with a spiced paneer filling and infused with fresh garlic for a deliciously aromatic experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup crumbled paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Butter or ghee for cooking and brushing

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Add warm water, yogurt, and oil to make a soft dough. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  2. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  3. In another bowl, mix crumbled paneer, minced garlic, cilantro, cumin powder, chili powder, and salt. Set aside.
  4. Divide the dough into equal balls. Roll each ball into a small circle.
  5. Place a spoonful of the paneer mixture in the center of the rolled dough. Fold the edges to seal the filling inside, then gently roll out into a flat circle about 6-7 inches in diameter.
  6. Heat a skillet or tawa over medium-high heat. Cook the naan for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook the other side.
  7. Brush each side with butter or ghee while cooking for extra flavor and softness.
  8. Repeat with remaining dough and filling. Serve warm with chutney or curry.

Notes

For extra flavor, add finely chopped green chilies to the filling or garnish cooked naan with fresh garlic butter and chopped cilantro before serving.
