Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large bag (approx. 9-10 oz) Nacho Cheese Doritos
  • 6-8 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Finely crush the entire bag of Doritos in a food processor or by hand until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Pour into a shallow dish.
  2. In a second shallow dish, whisk the egg. In a third shallow dish, add the flour.
  3. Take one mozzarella cheese stick and dredge it first in the flour, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  4. Next, dip the floured cheese stick into the beaten egg, letting any excess drip off.
  5. Finally, generously coat the cheese stick with the crushed Doritos, pressing gently to ensure a thick, even layer. Repeat for all cheese sticks.
  6. For best results, place the coated cheese sticks on a plate lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 15-30 minutes. This helps prevent the cheese from melting too quickly during frying.
  7. Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Carefully add 2-3 coated cheese sticks to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 1-2 minutes per side, or until the Dorito coating is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted and gooey.
  9. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried cheese sticks and place them on a wire rack set over paper towels to drain excess oil.
  10. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Serve these crispy fried cheese sticks with a side of marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or a spicy queso dip for an ultimate flavor experience.
