Freshly prepared Cottage Cheese Tots plated on modern kitchen counter

Deliciously crispy on the outside and creamy inside, Cottage Cheese Tots make a healthy and satisfying snack or side dish that’s easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil for frying (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the cottage cheese, shredded cheddar, breadcrumbs, egg, green onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Using your hands, form the mixture into small tot-sized shapes, about 1 inch long.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat if frying, or preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) if baking.
  4. If frying, cook the tots in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  5. If baking, place tots on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown.
  6. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For a healthier version, bake the tots instead of frying them and serve with a tangy yogurt dip or marinara sauce.
