This Baked Cheesy Dumpling Casserole is a comforting and hearty dish combining tender dumplings with a rich, melted cheese sauce, perfect for a satisfying family dinner.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs with milk and melted butter.
  4. Combine wet ingredients with dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  5. In a separate mixing bowl, mix shredded chicken, sour cream, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and half of the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
  6. Spread the chicken mixture evenly in the prepared casserole dish.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough evenly over the chicken layer.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top of the dumplings.
  9. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden and cooked through and the cheese is bubbly.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, try mixing in cooked vegetables like spinach or mushrooms with the chicken filling or serve with a fresh green salad.
